This information was provided to my father-in-law Lester E Foster in the
1960s by Dr. Nora Davis. It was from a family Bible.
"Children of James Couples Foster and wife Jane Morrow. James was born 1753
in Ireland; died September 13, 1837 at the home of his daughter Mary Porter
Foster and husband James Bonner at Springhill [near Sandusky, Decatur
County, Indiana.] Married 1780 Jane Morrow, daughter of Samuel Morrow.
Jane died December 3,1823 in S. C; buried in Cedar Springs churchyard.
James Couples Foster was long known in Abbeville County as 'Old Master
Foster'. He was a master spirit in the community and a leader in Cedar
Springs Church and a ruling elder for many years. He moved to Ohio in 1832
or 1833 and afterwards to Decatur County, 1835 Indiana, where he died in the
84th year of his age.
"1. James C Foster b. October 1, 1780; died March 9, 1844 (tombstone);
November 9, 1844 (family notes). Buried in Cedar Springs church yard,
Abbeville County, SC.; married Mary______, b. 1779; died April 23, 1845;
buried in Cedar Springs church yard, Abbeville Dist., SC. James removed to
Indiana, but remained only about one year.
"2. Samuel Foster moved to [Warren County], Illinois about 1840; died
1845.
"3. John Foster, died December 29, 1845; buried at Springhill, Indiana [near
Sandusky, Decatur County, Indiana.] married (1)January 20, 1803
Nancy_______, died June 12, 1821, Nancy buried near Due West, South
Carolina; married (2) October 21, 1825 Elenor Cochran, who died November 27,
1861; buried at Springhill area, Indiana [near Sandusky, Decatur County,
Indiana].
"4. Isabella Foster b. 1789; died May 27 (or 28) 1848; buried Springhill
area [near Sandusky, Decatur County, Indiana]; married Adam Stewart, b.
1781; died May 4, 1847.
"5. Alexander Foster, b. May, 1793; died March 20, 1853; buried at Ebenezer
Church near Cotton Plant, Miss.; married (1) Jane Crawford July 20, 1815 who
was born October 4, 1795; died January 29, 1832. She died in Alabama at the
birth of Mary Rebecca Foster and is buried near Oak Hill, Alabama. (2) Jane
N Adams, born February 11, 1810; died March 22, 1837, buried near Edom,
Texas.
"6. Mary Porter Foster, b. February 10, 1797 at Little Mountain (Parsons
Mt.), Abbeville Dist. SC; died July 1, 1838 near Oak Hill, Alabama; married
December 9, 1819 James Bonner Jr; moved to near Springhill area, Sandusky,
Decatur County, Indiana. James Bonner born April 2, 1792 on Little River in
Calhoun Mills vicinity, Abbeville District, SC. He died April 19, 1844;
buried at Springhill [Sandusky, Decatur County, Indiana].
"7. Thomas Foster, born 1799; died September, 1869 Tipton County, Indiana;
married Rebecca Hawthorn. Thomas was admitted to New Zion
Congregation/Springhill Presbyterian Church, April 27, 1837.
"8. William Lewis Foster born abt. July 26, 1802 in Abbeville District;
died May 13, 1870 in Milroy, Rush County, Indiana. Buried: Milroy
Cemetery, Rush, Indiana. Married (1) July 3, 1823 Margaret Sarah Buck, in
South Carolina. Margaret was born June 10, 1804; died October 31, 1836;
(William and Margaret Buck Foster were received into Springhill Church June
6, 1835.) William married (2) Eliza Patton September 12, 1837 [Rush County,
Indiana], who died May 17, 1844. She was the daughter of Nathaniel and Mary
Patton. (3) William married Margaret C. Weed July 3, 1845" [Rush County,
Indiana].
Dr. Davis also provided a copy of THE FOSTER FAMILY, a typewritten history
by Robert Andrew Foster, son of Alexander Foster and grandson of James
Couples Foster which was updated by John M Foster in 1915-1916. It mentions
names of grandchildren of James Couples and Jane Morrow Foster.
