from The Pettit Correspondent, Vol. 1, No. 2, page 16a ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Bart and Jake Bartholomew Pettit and Sarah Ann Butt were married in Muskingum Co. OH on 4-17-1823. The family appears on page 175 of the 1830 census for Muskingum Co. (1 male to 5, 1 male 30-40, 2 females to 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 20-30). The only Bartholomew Pettit found in Ohio on the 1840 census is for Delaware Co., page 212. The following is from the 1850 census, Delaware Co., page 303. Bartholomew Petet 57 M Del Sarah Ann " 46 F Md Jacob " 25 M Ohio Eliza " 22 F Ohio Sarah J. " 12 F Ohio Abe ? " 8 M Ohio Jacob Pettit married Mary Stockdale, 3-28-1826, in Muskingum Co. He, too, appears on page 175 of the 1830 census for that county (Bush Creek twp). There are two adults only listed that year for his household (1 male 20-30, 1 female 30-40). Like Bartholomew, Jacob seems to have left Muskingum Co. by 1840. By chance, I found the following on the 1850 census for Licking Co. OH, page 321. Jacob Pettet 49 M farmer Del Mary " 51 F PA It seems to me entirely likely that these two men were brothers. Does anyone have good info for late 18th century Delaware Pettits?
