from The Pettit Correspondent, Vol. 1, No. 2, page 16b ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Will of Beulah Pettet, Burlington County, NJ - 1819 Beulah Pettet, wife of William (d. 1798), died in Burlington Co. in 1825. It is very likely that the Joseph and Mahlon on pages 354 and 444 (respectively) of the 1850 census (see in this issue) are the sons mentioned below. For some additional information concern- ing John and Samuel, believed to be her sons, see page 6 of the April, `88 issue. Let it be recorded that I Beulah Pettet of Evesham Township in the County of Burlington and State of New Jersey being in good health and of sound disposition mind and memory do make and ordain this to be my last will and testament in words following. First, I order that all my just debts and funeral charges be paid by my Executor herein after named and appointed as early after my decease as conveniently will admit. -- Second. That my house and lot of Land situated in the Township of Evesham aforesaid whereon I now live, I order and direct my executor to Sell as early after my decease as Conveniently may be hereby giving him full power and authority to make to purchaser a good and sufficient Deed of Conveyance for the Same. It is however my will that if my Son Joseph Pettet will pay for the said house and lot the Sum of two hundred and fifty Dollars (it being the amount of money which I have thereon expended) that he be allowed that priviledge of taking it at that price; and if he does not; then I will my Said Executor to Sell the Same to the best and highest bider, and also the overplus money that it may bring more than the Sum of two hundred and fifty dollars I give to my Said Son Joseph Pettet as a full compensation for all the expense, Labour and improvement, that he has been at on and about the said house and lot. And after the Said house and lot of land shall be Sold as aforesaid, and all my household goods and kitchen furniture, I direct the moneys arising from the Sale thereof to be divided. I shall hereafter point out -- that is to Say give and devise the same to my five children namely Samuel, Benjamin, Joseph, Mahlon Pettet and Hannah Pangburd late Hannah Pettet to be equally divided among them Share and Share alike. All my wearing apparel I give and bequeath to my Said Daughter Hannah Pangburd. -- And Lastly I do constitute and appoint, my friend Benjamin H. Lippincott my Executor of this my last will and Testament thereby making void all other and former wills and testaments by me at any time heretofore made and this only taken for my last. In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and Seal this thirtieth day of the month in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and nineteen 1819.
