His parents were Lee and Easter Pettit and her's were Jacob and Elizabeth Stroope, both of Clark County. Eliza and James Pettit lived in Union Parish, LA and she died there May 13, 1849, leaving three sons: Washington, Lee and Jacob. A James Pettit appears on the 1850 LA census. However, they are apparently still living as they are mentioned in Jacob Stroope's will in 1855. What became of Washington, Lee and Jacob?
