The information for this was acquired from pension file # 35,553. Included in this file is a letter, not mentioned here, dated 15 Jan. 1838, requesting information regarding the possibility of benefits for the widow (unnamed). Bath County: June 17th 1818, Mathew Pettit, makes oath, that he served 3 years as private in Continental army, enlisted in Pennsylvania 1777 and served till 1760 [1780 - ed.] under Capt. Finley of 8th Pennsylvania Regiment. That his property does not amount to $30. and is unable to work by reason of a wound in his arm. Is now 58 years old. Is also injured by wound in left leg. Both wounds received in battle of Brandwine [Brandywine - ed.]. Has four children, the oldest being eight years of age. Mrs. Rebecca Mitchell, sister of said Mathew Pettit, testifies to his services and to his present need. 8-14-1820, Bath County Kentucky, Mathew Pettit makes schedule of his property under oath, as consisting of six hogs valued at $6.00. Has a wife, aged 42 and children: Drusillah aged 14, Nancy aged 12, Samuel aged 10, Ann aged 8, Polly aged 6, and David aged one month. Covering jacket: Kentucky 9110, Matthew Pettit - Private Pennsylvania line, 3 years. Inscribed on Kentucky roll at $8.00 per month to begin 17th June 1818. Pension issued 4-6-1819.
